Tioman Day 1

What a dreadful night. As we settled down for bed the maintenance guys turned up erecting scaffolding at one end of the building, belt sanding the floor at the other end and taking building materials into the building opposite. Complaints ensued and after a very long negotiation we were moved into two adjoining rooms in a different part of the complex. More comfortable for us but a “step down” in the luxury stakes.

We grabbed some lunch and headed out to Tekek (the neighbouring village) and into a water taxi to check out some of the other beaches and accommodation options. More nostalgia as we ended up at Salang where we’d stayed on our last visit. We ran out of time for a snorkel (we’re so glad we brought our own, they’ve made life simpler and have paid for themselves many times over) and settled for icecreams instead.

Heading back a tropical storm blew up, the sea got choppy and for the first time we were cold without air conditioning. By the time we got to Tekek the storm had passed us by and we were back in sticky heat and heading for the mini mart (in this case a duty free!) for beers and soft drinks and nibbles.
