Cherating Batik

Having promised the kids that we wouldn’t make them travel for two consecutive days, and knowing that the beach held no special delights we headed off to one of the batik schools. Found one closed but the other, Matahari, was open. The guy in charge, only 16 years old, was phenomenal at helping us and the kids and they are hugely proud of their efforts. Jeremy made a tshirt and Charlotte a sarong. Both are fantastic and when I can add photos I will (now added).

It was a long hot day getting it all done but so worth the effort. Walking back to our guesthouse we bumped into David, an english man who has taken early retirement and now lives permanently in Malaysia. We invited him up for a coke and had a really interesting hour or so learning about his life and more about Malaysia.

We then trotted out to the one decent and open restaurant for dinner before getting the kids home to bed. Jeremy had a rough night coping with new mozzie bites but for once they seem to have left Charlotte alone.

My foot is getting better and it was only towards the end of the day that it started to hurt. Thanks to the power of gentamicin cream I bought in Thailand I was able to keep the infection under control despite the difficulty of keeping a sandalled and frequently wet foot clean and dry. An Irish nurse we met in the Perhentians seemed to think gentamicin was mightily powerful stuff usually found in IV drips. I’ll be trying to buy some more before we head home!

Dear family, Love getting your messages AND the photos, what a wonderful time you are having, such great adventures, and seeing so very many different places. Sarah, a birthday you’ll never forget!!! Had a great time with Diana, the days passed in a flash. Am having a bit of trouble getting my new diabetic medication sorted out and the day after Diana left had my first real hypo - WOW I never want another!!!

It was the day of the Rangi cocktail party but there was no way I could have gone, let alone driven the car!!Such a dissapointment. Friday I felt better and did my usual job of selling raffle tickets for the Hospice House tour. Tonight Sue and Claud and I went to a marvellous concert with Howard Morrison and Malvina Major. Tomorrow is the Rahiri lunch followed by Mahjong at Robyn’s, Wednesday is the Hospice Fashion Parade and Thursday I take Zoe to the Cattery and 7am on Friday I leave!!! Saturday you will be home so I will take my phone and try and ring you from Kaikoura or Hanmer on Sunday.Fondest love, Bannyxxxxxxx
